Unfinished project - Faux wedding ring

I’m a little daunted about how I’m going to put my Candied Hexagon blocks together. They’re all so different – what if it just looks like a jumbled disorganised mess? I’ve never used such bold bright fabrics before - will the colours blend well together?

Maybe tomorrow (when it's not so windy out on my balcony) I’ll take some “aerial shots” of them all together, to see if any ideas come to me. In the meantime, I'm in the mood for doing something a little simpler.

I started this quilt earlier this year. When I pulled it out of the cupboard a few nights ago I was pleasantly surprised at how much was already done, maybe about three-quarters.

You know, there are no curves in this quilt. It’s a combination of hexagons, squares and triangles and there’s nothing complicated about piecing it together. Sew a strip of alternating squares and triangles, stitch it onto a large hexagon, then add the resulting block to your quilt.

I don’t know where I found this pattern, I guess I must have seen it on someone's blog, probably some time in the past 6-9 months. If you recognise where this design came from, let me know, as I’d like to credit it here.

And does anyone recognise this fabric range? I bought it online quite a few years ago. I know I went through a Robyn Pandolph phase for a while, but I don't think it's hers. Maybe it's Moda.

It has some gorgeous velvets and thicker weaves mixed in with the cottons. I know you’re not supposed to mix thick and thin fabrics, but I think I might get away with it. If there are too many lumps and bumps for machine-quilting, I could always “hand-stitch in the ditch”.

I’ve used the mint/peach colourway for this quilt but it was also available in a red/brown colourway as I remember making something for a friend out of it.

Bye for now. It's time to get on with some piecing!

  3. That looks terrific, Joanne. I don't recognize the fabrics, but I love Robyn Pandolph fabrics (and Moda, of course!) :)

  4. Love the quilt! I think the fabric is by 3 Sisters, Wuthering Heights wovens and textures. They have the best fabric :)

  5. I love your quilt, plus your EPP Rose blocks. These templates look great. I thank you for the chance to win some. I have been quilting for a year now and EPP is my favorite. Wanda
